Introduction:
Nanjamma, a tall dark-skinned woman, about 30 years of age, clad in a bright green saree, put on her bright multi-colored bangles on both her forearms, and a big red bindi on her forehead, and for the first time in her life, put red lipstick on her lips. She looked at herself few times in the mirror and made sure, she was very presentable to the public. Put on her rubber chappals and started walking towards the Gram Panchayat office. All her village friends and family bid her good bye, and some lady friends accompanied her along the way to the Gram Panchayat (GP) office.
It was her first day at the GP office. She had been just elected a few months ago, to be the GP member from her village representing the reserved women constituency.
